Last week my friend had surgery on her ear, for the second time. Over the last few years ears have become an increasing problem for teenagers. No this is no joke! I know multiple people who have had to have surgery on their ears due to a hole developing in their eardrum. The only thing is that each person I know, has had to have the surgery multiple times to actually get it fixed.
The friend who just recently got surgery was on her second round. The first time they had to remove a tumour which was growing on her eardrum and affecting her hearing. However, they were unable to cover up the hole that was developing, therefore she had to get the surgery for a second time. Next week she has to go back for a check up to ensure that the hole has really been covered.
She is in extreme pain, and the problem might not even be fixed! The first time around was really bad, she was out of school for almost two weeks, and never left bed! This time she had no choice but to come back to school, but she is still in severe pain. This surgery the doctors had to physically cut a hole in her head (behind the ear) and start the surgery from there. How crazy eh.
Another friend has already had the surgery twice, and is going on to a third time in hopes of the hole being closed. The pain has not been nearly as bad for her, but it is such an inconvenience. She cannot participate in sports, she cannot swim for 2 months, and the hole might not even be closed again.
The one thing I don't understand is that since this problem is becoming so popular, than why isn't the surgeries working? It may not be easy, but doctors see it more and more each day, and somehow the surgery they are performing which is lots of money, and lots of pain is not working for the patients. Is it better to just have that hole on your eardrum and risk going deaf in future years, or get the surgery multiple times and pray that it works for once?
Our deepest fear is not that we're inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It is not just some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Leave Me Be
Secretive.
Private.
Quiet.
Alone.
I keep my life a secret. Important and meaningful things that happen—they are left for me to share. But chances are I will not share.
I am very private. My feelings are for me only; my thoughts are for me only. My experiences are left for me to ponder. Push me enough and I might break and spill, but chances are I will not share.
I keep my voice quiet, for very few to hear. My opinion is my own; my voice is too small to be heard, not that I mind. My words are left for me to speak up when needed; when important. But chances are I will go unheard.
I am alone in many ways, though I am not. I prefer the time for me to think-- to keep my secrets free of questioning. I am surrounded by those who love me, but I remain alone. I do speak to some when in times of need. But chances are I am on my own.
So leave me be and I may come, but chances are it will take a while. My trust is hard to earn from most, and once it's broken it's lost for good. My walls will break down, when it comes time, but until then do not pry.

Colder Weather- Zac Brown Band
She'd trade Colorado if he'd take her with him
Closes the door before the winter lets the cold in,
And wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay,
She's answered by the tail lights
Shining through the window pane
He said I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
She said you're ramblin' man
You ain't ever gonna change
You gotta gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin'
At a truck stop diner just outside of Lincoln,
The night is black as the coffee he was drinkin',
And in the waitress' eyes he sees the same 'ol light shinin',
He thinks of Colorado
And the girl he left behind him
Closes the door before the winter lets the cold in,
And wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay,
She's answered by the tail lights
Shining through the window pane
He said I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better

And you were born for leavin'(born for leavin')
Well it's a winding road
When your in the lost and found
You're a lover I'm a runner
We go 'round 'n 'round
And I love you but I leave you
I don't want you but I need you
You know it's you who calls me back here
Oh I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then
Cause I'm a ramblin' man
I ain't ever gonna change
I gotta gypsy soul
And I was born for leavin' (born for leavin')
And when I close my eyes I see you
No matter where I am
I can smell your perfume through these whispering pines
I'm with your ghost again
It's a shame about the weather
I know soon we'll be together
And I can't wait till then
I can't wait till then
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better

I can't wait till then
I just recently started listening to this song, and I fell in love. At first you aren't entirely sure what the song is about. There are many things that the writer could have been trying to get at. I think this song is about a man who can't/doesn't know how to love/commit/settle. He is a wandering unsettled soul- ".. in the lost and found. You're a lover I'm a runner. I love you but I leave you"
He loves the idea of being with her "when I close my eyes I see you no matter where I am.. I know soon we'll be together" but he is unwilling/unable to let go of his freedom; he keeps telling her "i want to see you again but I'm stuck in colder weather." Although he cannot commit, he doesn't want to let go of her. For her its a battle between emotion and logic. She says "you ain't ever gonna change, you've got a gypsy soul to blame, you were born for leaving" yet she keeps holding on to the hope that her love may change him "wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay."
I feel that he than begins talking about the future, and how this girl he sings about is dead."I'm with your ghost again, I know soon we'll be together." It sounds as though she has passed away, and he is singing about how he always neglected his feelings for her, but now that she is gone, he can't wait to see her again some day, but that day won't come until his "rambling soul" finds it's way back to her.

The Killing of James Hayward.
In 2003, Kim Walker was accused of the murder of his daughters then-boyfriend, James Hayward. In 2007, he was convicted of second degree murder, but an appeal in 2010 led to a retrial as there was thought of an error in his profile. After three days of trial, the jury found Walker guilty of manslaughter. In the 2003 trial, he was guilty of second-degree murder.
Walker's daughter, Jadah (16) was living with Hayward (24) in Yorkton. He told the jury that he feared for his daughters life as she had started doing drugs when she moved in with Hayward. Walker stated that he had visited police and school counsellors seeking help for his daughter.
Walker had been in prison for 3 1/2 years after the trial in 2003, but was released when the calling for a new trial was requested. Being guilty of manslaughter leads him to prison for minimum of 4 years, however, his lawyer is going to fight this as Walker has already been serving for nearly four years.
During the trial in 2003, Walker petitioned to have his daughter sent to a psychiatric ward for 3 days. Jadah's weight had decreased from 135 to 95 since she had been living with Hayward. The day that Jadah was released from the ward, she went straight back to Hayward's house. That day was also the day that Walker murdered Hayward.
Walker told the jury that Hayward had threatened him and his family multiple times. Jadah even testified during the trial and stated that Hayward was a bad influence. He used and sold drugs, and injected her with morphine. She also admitted that Hayward had previously threatened her parents, and told Jadah herself that "for $3000 you can get rid of somebody."
Walker showed up at Hayward's home the day of the shooting, begging his daughter to come back home. Hayward started fiercely yelling at Walker and telling him to get out of the house. That was when Walker pulled the loaded gun and shot Hayward 5 times, killing Hayward.

Help Find BOB!!!
0 to 200 in 6 seconds
Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really mad.
She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!"
The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway.
Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house.
She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale.
Bob has been missing since Friday....

Jessie J
The new pop singer of 2011, Jessie J is bound for success! With only two singles released and one CD she has already won awards! She was born in Redbridge, London on March 26, 1988. When Jessie was 17 she joined a girl group, but she knew her talent could go farther. Soon after, she signed as a solo artist to Gut Records. Unfortunately, the record company went bankrupt before she was able to release her album.. but that didn't stop her!
When Jessie was 11, she was kicked out of the choir at her school for being TOO loud. The parents of the other children were concerned that she was too good, so she was kicked out! Jessie was also diagnosed with an irregular heart beat when she was 11 years old. She had wires put in her shoulder, groin and heart to try and zap it to a normal rhythm. But at the age of 18, she suffered from a minor stroke. Jessie says that having poor health has made her realize that she can't take anything for granted. She may seem like the crazy party girl who does whatever she wants.. but really she stays away from drugs and alcohol because of her poor health.
After her let down with the record company she turned to song writing and got a contract with Sony ATV. She wrote songs for Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys. You guys know that song "Party in theUSA ," that is Jessie J's song!!
Jessie was so desperate to show people that she could sing that she would sing in the subway. She would take her boom box down in the subway and sing her songs for those who are riding. Her voice is so powerful and her music is inspiring!
She finally got a record deal with Island Records and began her debut album, "Who You Are." Her first single "Do It Like a Dude" (which was written for Rihanna.. but she decided to keep it for herself) went to number two on the charts, along with her number one hit single "Price Tag."
If you haven't heard Jessie J, check out her singles "Do It Like a Dude" and "Price Tag." and if you want more Jessie J check out her debut CD "Who You Are."
I posted song lyrics and a link to watch her perform in the subway. It is my favourite song on the album "Who You Are"

Who You Are
I stare at my reflection in the mirror...
Why am I doing this to myself?
Losing my mind on a tiny error,
I nearly left the real me on the shelf ...
"no,no, no, no..."
Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay...
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart.
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are
Brushing my hair, do I look perfect?
I forgot what to do to fit the mould , yeah!
The more I try the less it's working yeah yeah yeah
Cause everything inside me screams, "no,no,no,no..."
Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars!
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart.
But tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
There's nothing wrong with who you are!
Yes, no, egos
Fake shows like woah
Just go, and leave me alone
Real talk real life
Good love goodnight
With a smile that's my home
That's my home
Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay

basketball
I am taken down the court. Bounce after bounce. Hitting the ground over and over again, but it doesn’t hurt. It is power, it is love. I sit in your hands, waiting for someone to be passed to. The power I bring you when you are holding me. Everyone relies on you to not mess up—everyone relies on you to get me in the net. Every person on the opposing team is watching your every move, my every move. I have been passed to someone else. Attention has moved to another player—you’re no longer in the spotlight, but I always remain in the light. It’s a team sport; you have to share the limelight, but I am selfish.
A pass goes into the key, the ball is caught. I watch and wait, hoping someone will use me to get a point. She turns, but her check is standing right in front of her—blocking her from taking a shot on me. I strive for that shot, that bounce off of me. She jabs right, her check falls for the fake, I am going to be used, and oh how I have missed it. The ball echo’s as it hits me. My square target point you look for every time you go for a layup. If you hit my square in just the right spot, at just the right speed, you’ve made me happy. The ball drops slowly into my mesh, falling through my hoop. Two points. You leave the ball there, bouncing on the ground—waiting for someone to pick it up. You leave me alone, to go score on my opponent. I will miss you until you come back.
I am no longer yours; I am now in the hands of the other team. Your job is to fight for me-- get me back. The most dangerous part of this sport is when I am not in your control. Defense—quick feet, aware eyes, ready to pounce for me.
Defend me as if I am your life. The adrenaline that follows a stuff, or a steal. The quickness that follows that. The whole team runs as fast as they can down the court, hoping to put my body to use, hoping to score once again into my lonely mesh. Their basket is no longer in danger, it is me that is in danger—but I strive for that attention. You left your basket, undefended, unprotected, and all alone, but for me I am attended.
And after that hour and half, both teams leave. One a winner, one a loser. A hard fought game that has come to an end. You leave me—a poor orange rubber ball alone, for I am no longer a use for you at this time. I am put away, no more control, no more attention, just loneliness as I wait for my next opponents to fight for me.
And I am left to hang, no one to protect me, no one to score on me. No need for anyone to protect me at this time. For I am like the ball, in order for me to be loved, the ball must be too. I dangle there, waiting for the ball to hit my square. Waiting for the sensation of the ball when it falls through my mesh—waiting to defeat my opponent hanging on the other side of the gym.
Everyone is left waiting—the players, the circular rubber ball, and the plastic backboard. All left to be, until the next game comes. Until those players decide they miss the ball and net. Until they realize they miss the spotlight, and the power. Until then, everything is left alone to rest.

Love or Lust?
Love: OR Lust:
- a profound, passionate affection for another - intense sexual desire or appetite.
- a profound, passionate affection for another - intense sexual desire or appetite.
- a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection - a passionate desire or craving
"Love is patient, love is kind. It has no envy, nor it boasts itself and it is never proud. It rejoices over the evil and is the truth seeker. Love protects; preserves and hopes for the positive aspect of life. Always stand steadfast in love, not fall into it. It is like the dream of your matter of affection coming true."
Love is what everyone looks for; they spend hours on end trying to find that one person. But lust is what most will find on their search for love. Does that mean that lust is love? Or simply that in order to find love, you must experience lust to know what love is?
There is a drastic difference between love and lust. Lust is simply having an attraction to someone, and acting upon it. Love is to have that attraction, but also to have passion, attachment, and unconditional feelings. When you are in lust you can easily get over that person. If they upset or hurt you, there are no deep feelings that keep you connected to them. Being in love means you stand by that person regardless of how they hurt you. Yes there are situations, in which this does not occur, but you get over your differences, you learn to accept one another for the good and the bad. Love is a feeling that is different for everyone. Love holds you captive, it releases all your emotions, and it makes you vulnerable.
Everyone will go through that lust. Maybe that lust will turn into love, who knows. Each and everyone of you will experience both love and lust. But every one searches for love, and when love cannot be found, lust is what is turned to.
So what is it for you? love or lust?

My Best Friend
We spent all our time with one another,
And some problems came into sight;
We never could get anything just quite right.
But we learned to appreciate our friendship so the future could be bright.
We played with games and toys, until we started to enjoy,
To drain our brains with those silly boys.
We grew older with time, but you were always by my side,
My emotions were concealed, but you never failed to try,
You introduced me to my pride.
Forever was obtained.
We have become two new people, though we’re still the same.
We promised to always be there,
Friends Forever, that’s what we share.
Media
Pictures of size zero models. Make up covering their faces. Tight clothing. Small clothing. Barbie. How to look-- how much to weigh-- how to be pretty. The media places so much pressure on how a women or a girl should look. You're only attractive if you weigh a certain amount. Models everywhere do not represent the average girl in society. If you were to look at a group of people, you would be more likely to see girls with hips, and a waist, than you would to see a stick figure. The media has taken this too far. More women then ever are uncomfortable with their bodies. Commercials, magazines, advertisements everywhere telling you how to lose those last 10 pounds. Millions of diets that people can sign up for. How often do you see an ad for weight loss and a man is the spokesperson? The media targets women. They have worked so hard to make women feel unhappy with their bodies, that they will believe these diets work. They're desperate to become "skinny." But honestly, what is skinny? Weighing one hundred pounds? Exercising constantly? Eating little to no food? Being skinny is a lifestyle. One cannot do all that work to lose weight than go back to their old habits. If you're going to weigh one hundred pounds, you will have to work for it each and everyday.
The fact that the media has targeted children in unbelievable. Girls look up to barbie, her beautiful face and hair, her tiny waist, but large breast. Media has created an image for girls, but the image is not even realistic. They want to wear tight jeans, and small shirts. They want to be "sexy." The image that every little girl wants is unrealistic. I see girls who are in grade three wearing make-up and inappropriate clothing. They are being stripped of their childhood, of their innocence.
Media is taking over our society. So many self-conscious girls, eating disorders, inappropriate clothing. Our society has taught us that one can only be beautiful if they are skinny. One can only be happy if they are skinny, if they are sexy This image needs to change. Happiness doesn't come from appearance, it comes from acceptance.

oh facebook ...
Okay so EVERYONE has facebook, or has had facebook. I personally deleted it for 6 months last year... but I'm back! I decided to delete facebook because it is such an immature program. Yes it gives one the ability to communicate with peers, broadcast pictures, and say your feelings... but these opportunities are taken so far that facebook is just annoying. So here it goes!
1. Write on your friends walls, but don't you notice that almost every single post you read is a rude, or a chirping post? What is it that makes people feel so empowering that they can chirp another over the internet. If you really have something to say that is hurtful, either say it to their face, or don't say it at all.. you make yourself look bad when you say hurtful things over facebook.
2. What is with the inappropriate pictures, or the constant change of pictures? If you have someone as your friend on facebook I think they know what you look like. So why do people insist on taking pictures of themselves from the perfect angle with all the touch ups? Do you really need people to comment on your pictures and tell you how gorgeous they think you are? Plus creeps all over the world could totally be checking you out... creepy eh! So ease up on the pictures boys and girls.
3. Status update.. status update... status update... WHO CARES? The status update is the most useless part of facebook. Yeah sure, express your feelings, la de da... but we don't need to know what you are doing every second. No one really cares, and you must not have a life. There is no need to express your love and hate for people over facebook. It is a place of communication, not a therapeutic website. If you have a problem, figure it out, don't post it on facebook so that the whole world can read it.. My personal favourite is "Bad mood.. don't text." that is a keeper ;)
4. Last but not least. If someone does all these annoying things on facebook, DELETE THEM! There is no need for you to keep them as a friend, and constantly chirp how annoying they are and blah blah blah.. just delete them, or keep your mouth shut. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all!
Summary:
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker--his classmate and crush--who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list. Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.
This novel was so powerful, and so touching that I have read it multiple times. I will continue to read it over and over again for the rest of my life. The message that Asher gets across is so deep, and so legitimate that the book makes you feel as though you have experience it personally. The process that the main character, Hannah goes through is so horrible. She moves to a new town, and immediately gets categorized. No one gave her the chance to show who she was. Although she came off like none of the problems she experienced bothered her, she for some reason chose to commit suicide.
The book is inspiring, and personally I feel that it should become part of high schools curriculum. This book sends out a very insightful message to all of those who read it. Bullying is a huge problem in this book, and in Hannah's case, it forces her to end her life.
I think that if this book were to be read by high school students then they may come to understand the result of bullying. Hannah was bullied from the first day she attend that school, and till the day she committed suicide. Because she left tapes behind to let everyone who influenced her to end her life know what they did, it showed those people how what they thought was a joke, wasn't a joke to Hannah.
This book really gives the readers the message that everything one person says, may mean something totally different to another person. You may be saying something as a "joke" but the person on the other end of the joke may take offense to it. Who knows, you may be the person who told the joke that took away someone's last bit of hope.
Thirteen Reasons Why has such a touching impact that I would recommend it to anyone. Asher's writing makes it impossible to put the book down. It always leaving you wondering what will come next. What will that next tape say? Who will be the person on the next tape? Overall it is a must read, and I recommend you go out and read it RIGHT NOW!!!

life has its "ups and downs"
It was the year 2000 and my family and I were building a house. Because our previous house was already sold and the new house was not completed we were living in a trailer in one of our family friends driveway... classy I know. My brothers and I were just wasting the summer away. One morning my mom was having a shower and she told me specifically not to go on the trampoline until she was able to supervise (plus there was only ever suppose to be 4 people on the trampoline).. being six, I didn't listen.
Looking back now, it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, seeing as my two brothers, and the three boys who lived in the house were on it. I ran up onto the trampoline ready to be just like "one of the guys." We were playing Crack The Egg. For those who don't know what this game is; there is one person who wraps their arms around their legs to hold them together. The objective is for everyone else to jump and bounce them around until their hands fall apart and the "egg is cracked." Me being a fierce little child I volunteered to be the egg (dumb idea). These tall determined boys were jumping around me like crazy trying to break my seal. I got double bounced at one point (i got extra height) and could see that I was going flying off of the trampoline. I released my arms and fell smack down onto the grass. Boys being boys kept bouncing, wanting to play another game, and I didn't want to look like a baby, so up i got. As soon as I stood up and put pressure on my left leg it did a weird twisting feeling and I fell right back onto the ground. So I tried again, and the same thing happened. My brother Brett realized what was happening and jumped off to help me. What a hero, I know! He picked me up and carried me to the trailer. Brett set me on the couch inside and ran to get my mom out of the shower.
Mom is a nurse and realized that I had hurt my leg badly. She took me to the hospital and I had to get x-rays and everything! Eventually the doctor told my mom and I that I had broken my Fibula in two places and needed to get a cast. There goes the end of my summer. When the doctor asked me what colour of cast I wanted I told him yellow. Yellow is Brett's favourite color and since he helped me I figured I could walk around for three months with a yellow cast. At first it was kind of fun, everyone signing the cast that went from my toes all the way up to my hip. My brothers had to help me with everything, and my mom would make me special meals. But the novelty wore off pretty quick. 6 years old, cast on leg, can't walk or run without crutches, can't play sports or swim, I was terribly bored. I would sit outside the trailer and watch my brothers have fun, I would have to take showers with a garbage bag on my leg so the cast wouldn't get ruined. And when we finally got moved into our new house, I had to sit around ALL summer and watch my brothers and neighbours swim in the river because I wasn't allowed. Wrost Summer Ever!
Ever since that day I have ruined a lot of peoples dreams about getting a trampoline. The people who owned that trampoline got rid of it. A lot of my friends weren't allowed to get trampolines because of what happened to me. And I have a fear of trampolines because that double bounce is terrifying.
Overall, the moral of the story ... Listen to your mothers!!

Alternate Meanings
Have you ever been in a listening to someone while they are telling you a story and feel like there is something more to it? Has anyone ever said something to you, but yet you feel as though there is an alternate meaning behind what they said? In my views, everything can mean one thing, but another thing that is totally different. It is funny how words can be used to express one's feelings, one's beliefs but still have some other source of information among them. Words have many meanings, as well as many meanings beyond what the dictionary says.
You can read a poem about a bowl, but really, the poem is not about a bowl. In some hidden and twisted way the poem may be about relationships, love, religion, or many other things. In order to find those meanings you have to look deeper into the authors writing. Look for signs that something shows more depth. Use your basic knowledge to find more meanings. That's what English is all about.
But even more than that, words can be used to describe how you're feeling, but be interpreted incorrectly. What one says can vary based upon the tone of voice, actions, body language. One may say that they like your outfit, when really they are more interested in something deeper than a simple complement.
The fact that everything has more meaning than you visually see is intriguing. A poem means more then just the basis of the story, a novel may tell you fairy-tale but there is always a lesson behind it, a song may be a bunch of words with a melody but there is meaning and purpose behind it. The fascinating thing about all of this, is that everybody finds different meanings. You may feel as though a story is about what you have discovered by reading it, however someone may think the same story is about something completely different.
How our brains allow us to think the way we want to think and how we make choices is a beautiful part of life.

bye bye v-day
so the stress is over.. unless you're one of those people who forgot to get that present, or was able to postpone this lovely day. Valentines day is gone! So stores pack up your heart pillows and chocolate, get rid of those roses that no one bought.. and we all know that the flowers you got from your boyfriend will die within a few days because you cannot take care of the. Those chocolates you were given will go to waste because eating chocolate only makes you fat. And that perfume can be added to your ongoing collection that has probably reached 13 by now. Ya ya it's all about the thought... but you don't need gifts to prove you love someone! So valentines day ... I'll see you in 364 days ;)

Heart Day
It's that time of year folks. Florist are upping their prices, teddy bears with hearts all over them, jewlers are making sales, chocolates in heart shaped boxes.. Can you guest what I'm talking about? You got it, it's Valentine's Day!
What is the purpose of Valentine's Day? We celebrate love and affection with our significant others. We go out and buy roses, chocolate, jewlerry, some type of present to commemorate this day. We make plans with our companions to do something special on this February 14 night. But realistically, Valentine's Day is just like any other day. Why should we emphasize the love we have for someone on this day? Why do we have a set day once a year to express our feelings to someone we care about?
If you have to buy presents to express your love for someone, than obviously that love isn't very strong. Yes, it is nice to have that one night when you can dress up and have a romantic dinner, but if you are only having romantic nights once a year, then something is wrong with your relationship. Being in a relationship shouldn't be about getting presents, it should be about expressing your love for one another on an every day basis, not just Valentine's Day.
The social expectations that this holiday has brought to men in the world is astonishing. So much pressure is put upon them to plan the ideal day. Men have the stress of arranging the perfect date, buying the perfect gift, spending enough money. But what do women have to worry about? Oh that's right, women worry about their men planning the perfect night, buying the perfect gift, proving his love for her. This day isn't all about you ladies! Are you going to be worrying about buying the perfect gift for your man? Are you out there making reservations and organizing your night? No. So before you give your guy heck for not putting enough effort into this useless holiday, think about how impractical you are being.
There shouldn't be one set day to celebrate your love. Buy them gifts spontaneously. Tell them you love them every day. It's just a dense holiday for those women who need the satisfaction of knowing that their man loves them.

I'm not saying to completly blow it off, sure buy some flowers, get some chocolate, have a good night together, but don't overdo it. It is just another normal night. So ladies, take a breath, just because your guy didn't go all out, doesn't mean he don't love you.

Good sportsmanship we hail, we sing,
It's always pleasant when you spot it.
There's only one unhappy thing:
You have to lose to prove you've got it.
